Premiere I: BALKENHOL live - an evening of classical dressage training
A touch of the Olympics comes to EQUITANA when Klaus Balkenhol brings several of Germany's best dressage riders such as Helen Langehanenberg, Kristina Sprehe, Anabel Balkenhol, Nadine Capellmann and Jürgen Koschel with him to the fair. In an exclusive evening of training on Monday 18 March, the internationally successful trainer provides an insight into his unique training concept. Under his direction and with different horses, from a young horse in training to a successful Grand Prix athlete, the riders present different training stages and answer questions on relaxation, collection, tempi changes, piaffe and passage. The training evening will be presented by Fendt.
Premiere II: PARELLI live - Horsemanship meets Classical Riding
Even for Pat Parelli, the grand old man of Natural Horsemanship, this is bound to be a very special premiere: at EQUITANA the celebrated Horseman meets Christoph Hess, the training ambassador of the Deutsche Reiterliche Vereinigung (FN). The motto of a unique evening show on 21 March is: "Horsemanship meets Classical Riding". Linda and Pat Parelli are assisted by their instructors, Christoph Hess brings Grand Prix champion Uta Gräf with him to Essen. In their evening show they will show how classical training and Natural Horsemanship can constructively complement each other. Pat Parelli himself will point out the way to a "happy, healthy dressage horse" by explaining the personalities and language of horses.

Dressage stars such as Lingh, Don Diamond or Florenciano, national champions such as Escolar or Colestus and licensing winners such as Damsey or Enzo Ferrari: these are the stars at HENGSTGE (STALLIONS) 2013, the great EQUITANA breeding show on 17 March. Here major studs and stallion keepers from all parts of Germany present their winners and shooting stars, exceptional sires and young champions from German sport horse and pony breeding.
This year the participants include Birkhof (with Lingh and Don Diamond among others), the Ludger Beerbaum stud (Florenciano and Escolar), Ferienhof Stücker (Friedensritter and Enzo Ferrari), Jens Meyer stallion station (Cashman, Damsey, Hampton), the recently opened Massener Heide stallion station (Cachassini and Colestus) and many more. Besides, the Pony Forum will provide evidence of the successful pony breeding "Made in Germany".
HOP TOP Show „Festivallo"
It is the show highlight at EQUITANA: the HOP TOP Show. Here, the best of the international show rider community come together every two years - for four exclusive performances. In the new production called "Festivallo" stars such as Lorenzo, Frederic Pignon, Oliver Jubin and Ana Ayromlou or the Kai Vorberg Vaulting Team take the audience on a journey to the cultures of the world, their traditions and festivities. With fascinating free dressage acts, acrobatics and stunts, "Festivallo" is a furioso spectacle combining top-class riding and grand show. Other participants this year are: the IG Fjord, Uwe Weinzierl, Kerstin Brein, Mangalarga Marchadores of the Brazilian Mangalarga Marchador Horse Breeder Association, the team of Excalibur Horse Shows and many others.
Centre of Excellence for Equine Welfare
How do I find the best feed, which is the right saddle, how to I train my horse on the treadmill - at the "Centre of Excellence for Equine Welfare" selected experts such as trainers, saddlers, hoof care specialists, farriers and legal experts provide assistance in humane horsekeeping. To this end, initiator Horst Becker has again compiled a programme suitable for all specialisations and riding types. New: on the mechanical seating simulator, both advanced riders and beginners and riding novices can improve their seat at a trot and a gallop. Demonstrations, live training sessions and visitor courses are held in the adjacent arena. The Centre of Excellence is located in Hall 1A (basement floor).
Mustang, Mangalarga, Moritzburger - 1,000 horses representing 40 breeds
EQUITANA offers the only opportunity to see the greatest possible variety of horse breeds in one place. More than 40 breeds are close enough to touch during the daytime and show programme or in the exhibition halls. The breed with the longest way to travel to the fair this year are the Mangalarga Marchadores from Brazil. Almost equally rarely seen are the Mustangs, Arabo-Friesians, Baroque Pintos or Moritzburgers.
Cattle and cones: the EQUITANA Cups
Up and coming stars and experienced pros will start in ten Cups at EQUITANA. Whether with acrobatic acts in the Vaulting Master Class, with cattle in the Cutting Cup, owl holes in the USG Indoor Eventing or cones in the Driving Cup - equestrian athletes of all disciplines and riding styles compete in the Main Arena.
The innovative variety of equestrian sports in nine product worlds
From a water walker in live operation to horseboxes or nutrition through to the full range of equestrian sports accessories: every two years, EQUITANA offers the largest international overview of everything that's new in the market. In nine product worlds, the 860 exhibitors at EQUITANA present their products and innovations. New this year is the "Competition Sports and Fashion Centre" where well-known brand manufacturers present their latest collections of high-quality riding fashions.
Particularly creative and, most importantly, useful new equestrian sports products are once again awarded the EQUITANA Innovation Award by EQUITANA in cooperation with the PFERDEBETRIEB magazine. The prospects for new products are promising this year: a total of 108 products were nominated for the award - more than ever before.
