Jessica von Bredow-Werndl and her brother, Benjamin Werndl, are currently the most successful siblings in the world of horse-riding. Jessica became World Champion as recently as September with the German dressage team, while Benjamin regularly achieves top placings in international grand prix competitions. But perhaps the most fascinating aspect about them is the way in which they complement one another as a team: they train together and also share the running of their stables in Aubenhausen in Bavaria. In their exclusive evening show, “Von Bredow-Werndl Live, Powered by Lami-Cell”, featuring at EQUITANA 2019 on 11th March, both Jessica and Benjamin will be demonstrating just why they and their horses are so successful.

Training colts and enabling them to achieve as much as possible in the world of sport is a matter very close to their heart of both siblings. Their focus is not just on making sure that their horses are kept in an ideal setting, but that they also receive a rich and multi-faceted training programme that enables them to develop to the best of their abilities.

Both set great store in identifying and nurturing an individual horse’s special talents, whilst also factoring in its young age. Essentially, this means giving a colt sufficient time to develop at its own pace. This is really the nub of Jessica’ and Benjamin’s coaching method, giving horses the space to develop, while also promoting their individual talents.

Horses always come first in Aubenhausen. Both Jessica and Benjamin attach great importance to their horses spending time at pasture every day and making sure that they enjoy a rich and varied training programme, riding through the woods, up steep slopes or letting off steam on the stable’s very own gallops. What makes dressage so fascinating for them is the synthesis of horse and rider that the sport involves.

“Riding is so beautiful”, says Jessica, “I want to show how we aim to establish the perfect connection between horse and rider at some point, and learn to ride with the subtlest of aids”. The key message they would like to send out into the world, says a convinced Benjamin, is that “you can expect absolute peak performance from the horses - and they will give it willingly”.

With a tally of over 100 top placings at advanced level, 20 medals in German Championships and European Junior and Young Rider Championships, their concept also seems to be bearing fruit.

Evening Show in Essen on 11th March

Jessica and Benjamin will be providing insights into their philosophy and training concepts in their evening show, “Von Bredow-Werndl Live, Powered by Lami-Cell”, at EQUITANA in Essen on Monday, 11th March. During the 2-hour show Jessica and Benjamin will be demonstrating different aspects of their coaching programme for dressage horses. As well as explaining their methodology and goals, they will also be providing tips on how they keep themselves and their team physically and mentally fit.

“It is a real honour for us to be able demonstrate our concepts and ideas at EQUITANA”, says Jessica, adding, “And, when visitors go home at the end of the evening, it would be really great if they would say to themselves, ‘Wow – I’ve got to try that out too’. We want them to go home inspired and go back to their horses the next day with renewed enthusiasm”.

Coaching evenings have become one of the mainstays of the EQUITANA evening programme. As EQUITANA director, Christina Uetz, says, “After Klaus Balkenhol, Uta Gräf and Ingrid Klimke, we are now pleased to be able to continue the tradition of having live events in 2019 with Jessica and Benjamin, two riders of the next generation”. From 9th – 17th March, EQUITANA will be bringing together everything that the international horse scene has to offer for the 25th time. As well as providing the largest exhibition area of any equestrian show worldwide, EQUITANA is again hosting a whole range of top events as part of its silver jubilee celebrations – including our fantastic equestrian gala, the HOP TOP Show, and exclusive coaching evenings with the stars of the horse world.

Tickets for EQUITANA and “Von Bredow-Werndl Live, Powered by Lami-Cell” are available from the EQUITANA ticket office with immediate effect.
