Show preview EQUITANA 2017: The thrill of pure equestrianism
They all come to EQUITANA: top athletes and top sires, sports and recreational riders from all disciplines, drivers, and horsemanship fans. And regardless of whether you want to build a riding facility, buy a pair of riding trousers or watch the greatest equestrians train: at the Exhibition Centre in Essen from 18 to 26 March, EQUITANA brings together everyone and everything the international world of equestrianism has to offer right now. Where else can you choose from more than 1,600 different varieties of basic, special and supplementary feedstuffs; try out 700 different saddles; or inspect one of the about 100 horse trailers on display?
Visitors can look forward to a top-notch programme: training evenings with Ingrid Klimke and Pat Parelli; live training sessions with stars such as Isabell Werth, Ludger Beerbaum, Andreas Ostholt and Christian Ahlmann; an exclusive stallion show featuring the German State Studs; the HOP TOP Show gala; and the new VOLTI-MAGIC vaulting show. The entire programme adds up to a 700-hour programme full of lessons, cup events and shows.
Exclusive training night: “INGRID KLIMKE live” presented by SAP
Dressage, jumping, cavaletti work and cross-country riding – like few others, Olympic, world and European champion Ingrid Klimke embodies a multifaceted, humane training philosophy. In the two-hour show on 20 March entitled “INGRID KLIMKE live”, the probably most versatile rider in Germany will offer insights into her philosophy along with valuable tips audience members can incorporate in their daily horse training at home. “From bush to dressage, we’ll show off everything we’ve got”, says Ingrid Klimke. “Above all, I want to demonstrate the joy I feel working with horses. My wish would be that all members of the audience, regardless of their preferred riding style, can take home something that night they’ll want to try out the very next day.”
Learning from world and Olympic champions
A total of 80 instructors, trainers, and top athletes will participate in EQUITANA’s daytime programme. With Isabell Werth, Ludger Beerbaum, Andreas Ostholt, Frank Ostholt, Christian Ahlmann and Nicole Uphoff-Selke, top international stars will pass on their skills in impressive daily demonstrations. Training is also a key topic emphasised by the German Equestrian Federation (FN). Topics range from basic training to high-performance sports. The focus is on creative riding lessons for children, modern jumping, safe cross-country riding, safety in driving, riding style comparisons (“Western meets Classic”) and a dressage lesson with German national coach Monica Theodorescu.
Pavo HENGSTE 2017 presents the German State Studs
Top stallions in top hands – that’s one way to succinctly describe this year’s EQUITANA breeding show HENGSTE. On 19 March, the German State Studs will bring their star sires along with some of the most successful German dressage riders to EQUITANA’s large ring: DSP Belantis under Isabell Werth, Imperio TSF under Hubertus Schmidt, Ben Kingsley under Helen Langehanenberg and Illuminati S under Fabienne Lütkemeier. The show promises to become a “parade of stallions” in all their diversity – before the start of the breeding season. In “Pavo HENGSTE 2017”, the German State Studs will open up their treasure chests to show off their jewels – from living cultural assets to cold-blooded breeds to riding ponies and thoroughbred Arabians to highly advanced warm-blooded top performers.
“Passepartout” – the new HOP TOP Show at EQUITANA
When Amicale Equestre de la Montagnette steps into EQUITANA’s large ring – with her 30 Camargue horses, no less – she’ll take the audience on a journey to the unique landscape of the Camargue and call up memories of the most beautiful holiday they’ve ever been on. With the new HOP TOP Show “Passepartout”, EQUITANA frames life’s special moments, stories and encounters in a poetic setting. As always, the HOP TOP Show has attracted the stars of the community: joining Lorenzo, the Flying Frenchman who again this year will bring both his famous white Lusitano and his black up-and-comers to Essen, Alizée Froment and her Sultan will show off the subtlest of communication skills using barely visible signals. Spaniard Santi Serra Camps enchants audiences with his playful handling of his Friesian horses. Team Norka from the Vaulting Club Cologne-Dünnwald, the reigning German team champions, get audiences fired up with a lineup of top stars gathered around world and European champion Patric Looser – like Working Equitation specialist Mitja Hinzpeter and Team Signum Sattelservice.
PAT PARELLI live on 23 March
Pat Parelli will perform in his own evening show at EQUITANA for the third time after 2011 and 2013. The exclusive programme on 23 March promises to deliver one thing above all: two hours of pure Parelli! His training concept, Parelli Natural Horsemanship (PNH), has emerged as one of the most well-known and successful training concepts of its kind. The method functions as foundational training for each rider to build upon individually. Respect, trust and communication are the cornerstones of working with the horse.
Premiere I: EQUITANA Education
“9 days, 9 trainers” – that’s the tagline for the premiere of the new “EQUITANA Education” format. In daily seminars, some of equestrianism’s most well-known horse(wo)men will deliver an instructive programme in Hall 1A – from “fine riding” to training tips and motivation to ranch trail. The following trainers will be at the premiere: Uta Gräf, Horst Becker, Kenzie Dysli, Linda Tellington-Jones, Bernd Hackl, Sandra Schneider, Stefan Baumgartner, Ute Holm and Peter Kreinberg. The seminars are scheduled to run daily from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm and from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm. A separate ticket is required to attend.
Premiere II: BLEYER VOLTI-MAGIC, the gala show for fans of equestrian vaulting
It’s kind of magic: high-performance sports and shows, acrobatic feats and a rousing atmosphere among fans – EQUITANA’s new event “BLEYER VOLTI-MAGIC” fuses all facets of vaulting. Top stars and future hopefuls among the horse acrobats will present an exclusive programme during the two-hour premiere of the show on Sunday afternoon, 26 March. Featuring individual, team and pas-de-deux, VOLTI-MAGIC delivers horse acrobatics on the highest level of performance, clearly showing why vaulting is so popular these days.
750 exhibitors to put on largest equestrian sports display anywhere
From top-to-bottom stable constructions with modern exercise pen designs to horse exercisers to horse muesli, from the latest fashion trends to must-have accessories: EQUITANA comprises the major international brands and manufacturers as part of the most extensive overview of the latest developments in the equestrian sports market. In 2017, EQUITANA’s exhibition area will be a bit squeezed, though: due to renovation work at the Exhibition Centre Essen, two entire exhibition halls won’t be available this year. Some 750 exhibitors from 30 countries will present their product assortments and innovations.
For breeders, professional horse farms and horse owners, EQUITANA is the top choice when it comes to riding, horse care, and the construction, operation and maintenance of equestrian sports facilities and stables. EQUITANA’s largest exhibition area, Hall 3, will feature products for all kinds of equestrian operations: solutions for stable and riding facility construction, stable and farm technology, and horse transport. EQUITANA offers the largest selection of horse trailers anywhere.
EQUITANA’s cup competitions
Nine cup competitions will be held at EQUITANA, featuring young talents and seasoned professionals alike. In the KATINA Showcup (19 March), the show stars of tomorrow will show off their skills in liberty dressage, quadrilles, circus lessons and freestyle. Drivers will take the reins at the VOLVO Driving Cup (21 March). Using hedges, tree trunks and keyholes, the large ring will be transformed into a cross-country course for the USG Indoor Eventing Championship (22 March). On Western Day (23 March), the top stars will compete in the Böckmann Reining Cup and the IDEXX Cutting Cup. Retuning to EQUITANA for the second time will be the deukavallo Horse & Dog Trail (24 March), which rewards teamwork and close communication between human, horse and dog. Riders participating in the LOUVEN Working Equitation Cup (24 March) will perform dressage tasks, clear trail obstacles and complete a speed trail. A new addition to EQUITANA: the Golden Jumper Cup presented by REITER REVUE International (25 March). Wearing imaginative customers, about 20 juniors will face each other in a Class L pony show jumping competition in front of a large audience. Beautiful horses of all Baroque breeds in a high-calibre dressage competition – that’s the KÖNIGS Baroque Horse Cup on the second EQUITANA Sunday (26 March).
