EQUITANA to stay in Essen: Contract extension through 2021

02 February 2017

“All horses to Essen” - that tongue-in-cheek tagline will remain true in future, as well. At home in Essen since its premiere in 1972, EQUITANA agreed early to an extension of its contract with Messe Essen through 2021. Every other year, the world’s largest equestrian sports fair takes up the entire site and draws more than 200,000 visitors, making it one of the most-attended trade fairs in Germany.

One crucial factor leading to the decision was the positive outlook at the Essen location: one of the most technically advanced exhibition centres is being built right now, right in the centre of the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region.

“We’re very satisfied with the development of the Essen trade fair location: once the modernisation effort is finished, the site will be absolutely perfect for EQUITANA. It’s something that opens up entirely new options for our exhibitors and us”, says Hans-Joachim Erbel, CEO of Reed Exhibitions Deutschland, explaining the contract extension.

Oliver P. Kuhrt, managing director of Messe Essen, also emphasises the modernisation’s utility: “We’re pleased that we were able to secure the long-term commitment of a major trade fair such as EQUITANA. Without the conversion to create the new Exhibition Centre Essen, this would not have been possible.”

Once the modernisation is complete, the Exhibition Centre Essen will boast eight large single-storey halls, which are sure to significantly enhance logistics and orientation.

The next EQUITANA will take place from 18 to 26 March 2017.
