Modern single-storey halls, the latest in building technology and spacious entrance areas: thanks to an investment volume of approximately 90 million euros approved by Essen City Council, the “New Messe Essen” is set to be overhauled into one of Germany’s most advanced exhibition centres by 2019. The groundbreaking ceremony for this major project is scheduled for 2 May 2016. With work being coordinated to allow ongoing trade fair operations, a total of five large new halls will replace today’s small-scale buildings in the northern area of the site. Halls 9 and 9.1 will be affected during the first construction phase, which means the two-storey building from the 1970s will no longer be available for EQUITANA 2017.
