EQUITANA Innovation Prize: grain-free feed

EQUITANA Innovation Prize 2019: grain-free feed
Allergies and food intolerances are a problem not just for bipeds but also for quadrupeds these days: which is why special diet feeds are a growing market. Nevertheless, a change in diet can often affect long-term performance or the stomach – one of the most common diseases of civilisation that can affect our partner the horse. According to surveys, 50 percent of foals and more than 60 percent of sport and leisure horses suffer from mucositis and ulcers. As well as the conditions under which horses are kept or compete, starch-rich feed containing oats and barley can also aggravate symptoms. However, without the power of grain, a horse may soon lack the energy required for a good jump or lively movement. The manufacturer Mühldorfer has succeeded in developing a feed that still promises performance, despite not containing the power of grain. iQ Active2 is intended to provide energy to sport horses as well as to those suffering from insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome or digestive problems. Its special mix of sunflower seeds, husks and oil, stabilised rice bran, linseed and soybean husks does not just appeal to horses, it has also managed to persuade the EQUITANA Innovation Prize Jury 2019, who have awarded the innovative granulate a prize in the feed category. The committee based its decision on the wide range of uses the feed could be put to, its high energy content and the vitamins and minerals it provides.
